Grant means you're free to surf at local libraries

Universities around every corner. That's the prospect following a £388,174 boost for on-line learning in city libraries. The Lottery grant will fund an extra 108 computers, all with free internet access at Hull's 16 community libraries.

The Central Library will also house a dedicated ICT Learning Centre, equipped with 30 PCs, printers, scanners and video-conferencing facilities. Local residents will be able to use the new facilities to take part in workshops, taster sessions and basic computer skills courses. Information currently held by the City Information Service will be made available via the library web site and accessible across the city through the People's Network.

Computers in the community libraries will also be used to support the Homework Zones initiative, providing young people with e-mail access to 'study buddies' - teachers and other experts who can help with homework.
