School goes up on firm foundations
Hull's school of the future is getting off the ground. Construction of the £15m Endeavour High School on Beverley Road has begun. The first secondary school to be built in Hull since 1988, it will have many features, such as improved computer facilities and electronic whiteboards, outlined by the government in its vision for the School of the Future.
When completed in 2003, the new building will unite Endeavour pupils who are currently divided between the former William Gee and Amy Johnson School sites. Many attended the ceremony together with board members, contractors and local residents.
On the site of the former Kingston General Hospital, the 1,200 place school will bring state-of-the-art educational facilities to the heart of the city. Headteacher David Throp said it could become one of the top schools in the country. "The most modern academic and sporting facilities and computer technology are included in the school to help regenerate educational standards and compete with schools across the county," he added.
The project is funded by the City Council using funds received from the sale of Kingston Communications shares.
