Taking the Scenic Route
Stylish new carriages, complete with passengers in period costume, can now be found next to all the bicycles made for two at Hull's Streetlife Museum. The extension of the museum's carriage gallery marks the completion of Streetlife's £2m refurbishment.
Continuing the themed displays of the original gallery, it features four new scenes including a day at the races and a shooting party on the Moors.
The figures, created by York-based Scenic Route - the company responsible for The Deep's fossil wall - include a coachman and groom in livery, a lady setting out in her 'Barouche' and members of a shooting party, dressed in casual tweeds.
It took between 75 and 95 hours to sculpt, mould and process the figures and one and a half days to paint each one. Each costume took a further 60 to 80 hours to make, using fabric costing nearly £3,000. Streetlife reopens on April 13.
