New lift in Gallery
A brand-new lift in Ferens Art Gallery will
give wheelchair users easier access to
the Gallery’s first floor.
It will make getting to the children’s
gallery, early 20th-century art and
maritime pieces much easier.
Wheelchair user Raymond Mortimer
(pictured), of Calvert Lane, was the
first person to benefit from the lift
refurbishment.
Fishy lesson - Fish don’t have fingers!
That was one of the key facts given to
pupils in a lesson designed to promote
eating fish at Fifth Avenue Primary
School. The fun workshop was
organised by Billy Boy frozen foods in
partnership with the council.
Children were able to touch and feel a
variety of different fish and shellfish -
including haddock, coley, plaice and
salmon. They also learned about the
health benefits of eating it.
The council is planning to introduce more
fish onto the menu as part of its Eat
Well, Do Well scheme, which provides
free healthy school meals to primary
school children.
Kelly’s recipe for
success
Catering student Kelly Lovick (16)
scooped top prize for her French cooking
skills.
With a mouth-watering bacon salad
starter, she won the individual section of
the Association Culinaire Française
cookery competition, which is held
annually at Hull College.
A separate section of the competition
involved rivalry between school teams
from across the Hull area, including
Hornsea, Hull Collegiate, Isaac Newton,
Winifred Holtby, Snaith School (nr.
Goole), Sydney Smith, Wolfreton and
Malet Lambert.
The winning team came from Wolfreton
school, who made a starter of falafel and
tatziki.
Green days out
Hull Green Gym is looking for people
who want to become fitter and healthier
by taking part in nature conservation
activities to improve green spaces in the

helping to make parks in the city more
friendly for wildlife.
No experience is needed to join the
initiative, which works with The Hull
Local Biodiversity Partnership in
encouraging people to be active and
enjoy the fresh air.
Activities run twice weekly, with one
Saturday family session per month.
To take part, contact Caroline Wilcock on
