Ferensway closure
In a revamp costing £2.5 million, the road will be made more
pedestrian-friendly, with easier access for wheelchair users.
The closure will also enable work on the £200 million St
Stephen’s development to be carried out safely and quickly.
Keeping traffic moving
Hull City Council will keep traffic moving throughout the sixmonth
closure. Here’s how:
Car users
The road network will be monitored by CCTV - and traffic
information will be relayed to local radio stations every ten
minutes during peak hours.
Also, an intelligent traffic-signal control system will manage
traffic queues at the lights during peak hours.
Using alternative routes
Diversions for HGVs and out-of-town traffic will be clearly
signposted via Castle Street, Great Union Street and
Freetown Way (see map).
Using Public Transport
City centre visitors and workers
are being encouraged to plan
journeys, consider working more
flexible hours, use public
transport, park and ride, or car
share.
Travelling by bike
There are 66 miles of cycle routes in the city. For a copy of the
Hull cycle map, call Hull Connect 300300 or download it from
the council website at www.hullcc.gov.uk
