A Hull world away
That’s the date when the job of
tackling illegal parking across the
city is taken over by the council’s
new parking attendants.
Replacing the traffic wardens, who are
employed by Humberside police, the
new council attendants will carry out
more evening and weekend patrols, and
will cover more areas - not just the city
centre.
The message is clear, say the new
attendants. You will get a £60 parking
ticket (discounted to £30 if paid within
two weeks) if you:
- Park in areas where waiting or
loading restrictions are in force
- Park for longer than you have paid
for
- Park in a residents’ parking zone for
longer than permitted periods without
displaying a valid permit
- Park for longer than the stipulated
time in a controlled parking zone
without a residents’ permit.
- Park in a specially reserved bay - eg,
a loading bay, a disabled bay or taxi
rank - unless you are authorised to
do so
- Park in a bus lane or bus stop during
restricted hours
The council’s head of highways and
transportation, Pele Bhamber, said: “It’s
all part of the council’s aim to make the
streets safer and less congested - and to
prevent obstruction and inconvenience
for the thousands of vehicles which use
the city’s roads every day.
“That includes delivery vehicles, buses,
disabled drivers and, most importantly,
the emergency services.”
The new parking enforcement has also
been welcomed by residents who
complained that not enough was being
done to enforce the regulations out of
hours and outside the city centre.
Perth Street West resident Richard
Barker welcomed the possibility of
increased patrolling around the KC
Stadium on match days.
He said: “We have a real problem,
particularly at weekends and evenings,
with people thinking they can get away
with parking in controlled zones.
“The whole street can be blocked,
forcing residents to park on streets some
distance away and congesting other
streets.
“With parking attendants patrolling, it will
act as more of a deterrent. People
visiting the stadium can use park and
ride, the overhead walkway from the
train station, or the designated car park.”
