Festival for freedom

#

Piano rockers Keane will play in East park

Two of rock and pop music's biggest acts are coming to Hull.
Keane and Groove Armada will headline at a two-day music festival to be held in East Park on June 9 and 10.
The festival, "Freedom Rocks," is being held to commemorate 200 years since the abolition of the British slave trade, and to highlight today's fight to end modern slavery.
Piano rockers Keane will headline the Saturday night, while dance music giants Groove Armada will perform on the Sunday.
There will also be Fairtrade stalls and a "Dance Freedom Big Top Tent," at the festival, which is being backed by Hull City Council and human rights charity Anti-Slavery International.
"As the epicentre of the anti-slavery movement led by William Wilberforce, and as a Fairtrade city, Hull is perfectly-placed to hold this event," said organiser Emma Krijnen-Kemp.
"We still have more acts to announce for both days. It promises to be one of the most culturally significant and musically diverse events of the year."
Tickets, priced at £32.50 for either Saturday or Sunday, or £59.50 for the full weekend, are available from Top Deck Tunes, Carr Lane, or the John Street Gallery, on John Street, near Hull New Theatre. They can also be purchased at
