Prize Quiz Trail

Stuck for something to do over Easter? Then why not visit Wilberforce House and follow this quiz trail to guide children and families around the new galleries. The museum will be open every day except Good Friday.

If you get all the answers right, you could win a great prize from Browns Books in Hull (see below).
To find the answers, you will have to visit Wilberforce House and look very carefully at the displays.
Admission is free. Good luck!

Question 1

Go into the William Wilberforce galleries near the entrance on the ground floor. These galleries tell you all about Wilberforce's life. Write down the names of three objects which you see that belonged to Wilberforce.

 

Question 2

Go to the slavery galleries on the first floor, and look at the West African Cultures gallery. Which West African people wore Kente cloth?

 

Question 3

Now find the Slave Trade gallery in this gallery. Name the three continents involved in the transatlantic slave trade?

 

Question 4

Now look for the Middle Passage display. What was the Middle Passage?

 

Question 5

Now find the Plantation Life gallery. What was also known as 'white gold'?

 

Question 6

Turn into the Resistance and Rebellion gallery. Name two ways that slaves could rebel against or resist their owners.

 

Question 7

Now go into the Abolition Campaign gallery. What was Thomas Clarkson famous for?

 

Question 8

Complete the sentence:
'Am I not a .............. and a ................ '

 

Question 9

Find the After the Campaign gallery and answer this question: although the British Slave Trade was abolished in 1807, in which year was slavery in the British Colonies abolished?

 

Question 10

You now need to go back to the ground floor to the contemporary galleries. Look in the Modern Slavery and Human Rights gallery. Name three Human Rights that are important to you.

 

Browns Books, on George Street, have put up a prize for the first correctly completed answer sheet to be pulled out of the hat.
The prize is a signed copy of William Hague's new biography of Wilberforce, plus a £25 voucher to spend on books of your choice.
