Sign with the Stars

#

Indie rockers The Kooks (left) and The Thrills are supporting Hull's call to end modern slavery.

Indie rock bands The Kooks and The Thrills, and top hairstylist Mark Hill are the latest big names to back Hull's anti-slavery petition. Have you signed?

"Everyone should sign this petition - it's shameful that slavery is still a feature of the modern world."
So says Luke Pritchard, lead singer of award-winning British rockers The Kooks, who has exclusively told Hull in print that he is backing the city's petition to end modern slavery. And so are Irish indie rockers The Thrills, whose lead singer Conor Deasy says: "We live in the 21st century - it's mad that we're still letting it happen."

Making history

#

Celebrity hairstylist Mark Hill.

During his fight to abolish slavery, Wilberforce collected almost one million signatures in more than 800 different petitions.
It was the biggest number of signatures ever to have been brought before Parliament, and 200 years on we're still talking about them.
That's because together, those people who gave their signatures helped shape the course of history.
Now you can do the same by taking a minute of your time to sign today's petition to end modern slavery.
"It is tragic that after 200 years of momentous change in British laws, 21st century people are still subjected to - and are the perpetrators of - unforgivable acts of slavery, worldwide," says Mitch Upfold, lead officer for the council's Wilberforce 2007 commemorations.
"This is why Hull people are getting behind the achievements of Wilberforce to carry on his good work, and it's great to see celebrities getting on board too."
In conjunction with Anti-Slavery International, Hull City Council and its partners in the wilberforce 2007 commemorations, are asking more residents to make historic waves.
By adding your name to this fight, you are joining the growing numbers of musicians, actors, business people, artists, politicians and well-meaning people across the world.
International celebrity hairstylist Mark Hill is the latest star to add his name.
"We all have the opportunity to support such an important campaign," says Mark, who has salons in London and the East Riding.
"In 2007, everyone deserves to be treated equally. We must abolish slavery forever."

To sign the petition, visit www.wilberforce2007.com or phone 300300 for a petition postcard.
