A thrilling new production of Treasure Island will bring the classic pirate adventure to the Hull stage this month.
The production, adapted from the classic children's story by Robert Louis Stevenson, is brought to Hull by the Birmingham Stage Company.
It tells the well-known tale of how young Jim Hawkins discovers a treasure map in The Admiral Benbow Inn before handing it over to Squire Trelawney.
Seized with excitement, Trelawney sets sail with Jim and a crew of salty sea dogs in search of the island.
They are joined on the ship by the treacherous ship's cook, Long John Silver, who is determined to keep all the loot himself.
Suitable for a family audience, the production follows on from the BSCs successful appearance at Hull New Theatre last year in Danny the Champion of the World.
The production runs from April 15-19.

Tickets are priced at £10.50 for adults and £7.50 for children. For bookings call 226655 or book online at www.hullcc.gov.uk

Look out for Ferens the cat, who will be guiding children around the exhibition

The good, the bad and the ugly ...

A selection of colourful and sometimes controversial characters will form part of a new exhibition created for families at the Ferens Art Gallery.
Heroes and Villains will include paintings, photographs and sculptures from across the centuries depicting among others Napoleon Elvis, Joan of Arc and a Wild West bandit.
Special interactive exhibits are being designed to complement the art and among the local heroes featured will be Hull's anti-slavery campaigner William Wilberforce, aviator Amy Johnson and television personality Maureen Lipman.
"This will be a fun and light-hearted exhibition suitable for a family audience. I hope both children and adults find it educational as well as enjoyable," says keeper of art Kirsten Simister.
The exhibition opens on April 26 and runs to August 31.

A Glimmer of film talent

The Hull International Short Film Festival makes a return to Hull this month under the new name of 'GLIMMER.'
The festival, now in its sixth year, will bring an exciting and diverse mix of films and documentaries to the city.
Highlights include World of Wrestling, a comedy starring Mackenzie Crook, pictured far right, that follows the stars of the 1970s wrestling scene as they catch a night bus home.
And True Colours, a social drama about a violent father who struggles to earn his family's trust, is also set to be one of the festival's top films. But what's in the new name?
"We didn't think the Hull International Short Film Festival rolled off the tongue very well," says Laurence Boyce, director of Hull Film.
"If something glimmers it creates a lot of interest so we thought we'd use it as the new name for the festival. It seemed a nice fit."
About 200 films will be shown, most of which will be about 10 minutes long.

Glimmer runs from April 15-20 at Reel Cinema in St Stephen's, Hull Screen at George Street and other venues across the city. Prices are around £3.50 on the door. For more information contact www.hullfilm.co.uk

Just say the word

A creative writing workshop wants to hear from people with a passion for words to gauge the need for more courses in the city.
The Fifth Quarter workshops at ArtLink in Princes Avenue have been attracting a high level of interest and the organisers want to examine the possibility of running more of them in the future.
The workshops offer guidance on technique and creative exercises for writers of prose, poetry and autobiographical work.
Those attending can also get critical feedback on their writing. It is suitable for beginners to experienced writers and people who are passionate about writing as a hobby or future career.
But the free-to-join workshop, which runs on the second Saturday of every month throughout the year, is fully booked and there is a waiting list for places.
Now organiser Hull City Arts would like to hear from more writers to see if further sessions can be laid on at a later date.
To register your interest call Hull City Arts on 300300 or email cityartsbookings@hullcc.gov.uk
