Free legal advice at CSCs
Residents will be able to access free legal advice at the city's nine customer service centres (CSCs) from May.
On top of more than 100 other services which can be accessed at CSCs - from getting a bus pass to reporting a faulty street light - residents will soon be able to get free advice on a wide range of issues including debt, employment, benefits, housing, family, education and immigration matters.
"We want to make legal advice more accessible," says Eddie Coates Madden, customer insight and strategy manager at Hull City Council.
"Often the law can offer solutions which can make people's lives better, but very often people don't know their rights – and come across barriers when trying to access legal advice."
The legal advice will be offered by experts who will be based in the city's brand-new Community Legal Advice Centre (CLAC), which opens in the city centre in May.
One of the first of its kind in the country, the CLAC is a partnership between Hull City Council and the Legal Services Commission.
It will not offer advice on criminal matters.
