Animal Magic

This month's news crew – that's Harry, Jordan, Josh, Patrick, Nathan and Towson - give tips on how to look after your pets, plus they find out about an animal which is now extinct.

All animals are important. If you keep an animal of your own we call them pets and they need to be looked after properly. Most pets need the following; Food, water, shelter, exercise, play, encouragement, to be loved and petted, to be kept clean, and to be safe from illness and harm.
National Pet Month is between April 5 - May 5 2008

The sabre-toothed tiger

Some animals in the wild are 'endangered' now which means there are only a few of them left and one day they might be extinct (gone) forever. Patrick found out that one type of extinct animal is the sabre-toothed tiger.
They used to live in grasslands, shrubby areas and pine forests. They had a long tail to help them balance when they ran and leapt. They had large teeth to eat bison and sheep. Their thick black and orange fur protected them from the cold weather.

In February, we asked you to send in your pictures of animals from the Chinese calendar. There was a record number of entries with lots of great pictures, so thank you to everyone who sent them in. It was hard to decide which were the best but these are the winners and they will receive a prize soon.
