Race for life

#

Thousands of women - from grandmothers to toddlers - are limbering up for this year's Race for Life taking place on Sunday June 1.
And for the first time ever men can play their part too.
Hundreds of thousands of pounds will be raised for Cancer Research UK through the event, a 5km run which begins at Costello Stadium, west Hull, in the morning.
The men will take part in a separate race entitled "Run for Moore" to raise money for the Bobby Moore fund which supports research into bowel cancer, which will take place in the afternoon.
To book a place in either of the races, visit www.hullcc.gov.uk or ring 300300.

St George's Day

#

Scout groups from Hull march from Pearson Park to Cottingham Road during last year's St. George's Day parade

More than 350 young people from across the city will take part in an event to mark St George's Day, on April 23.
The young people, who are members of the west Hull and north Hull scouts groups, will attend a service the Sunday before St George's Day at St Martin's Church in west Hull.
St George is the patron saint of England and also of the scout movement.
It's believed he was a cavalry soldier in the Roman army about 1,800 years ago, but was executed for being a Christian after his faith was discovered when he refused to kill other Christians.
The service is held to allow the scouts to reaffirm their promise to keep the Scout Law which includes being courteous and helpful to others.
