Road plans move forward
The public are being invited to have a say on plans to upgrade Hull's busiest road.
More than 60,000 vehicles use the A63 Castle Street every day, including 9,000 heavy goods vehicles bound for the docks on Hedon Road.
The plans, which will tackle congestion and make crossings safer for pedestrians, could involve either raising the road at the Mytongate junction, where it joins Ferensway (see top picture) or lowering it (see bottom picture).
Costing the government's Department of Transport between £126 million and £188 million, they could also include the widening of the eastbound carriageway to three lanes between the Mytongate junction and Market Place.
New pedestrian bridges would be built at Porter Street, Princes Quay Shopping Centre and Market Place.
The public can give views on a questionnaire which is being posted to 120,000 homes in the city, along with a leaflet explaining the plans.
A questionnaire and leaflet are also available online at www.highways.gov.uk/A63castlestreet
