On the run: The Lord Mayor, Coun. John Fareham joins in the Foredyke fun

Generation game

Pupils at Foredyke Primary School travelled back in time for a Healthy Families Day in July. As the children got to grips with old games, such as cup and ball, and spinning tops, other activities highlighted the importance of healthy living. Organised by Learning and Culture, the day was aimed at pupils and parents alike, and included crafts, literacy events, physical activities, and healthy eating advice. There was also a chance for lunchtime supervisors to learn the history of playground games, in a bid to develop children's learning.

Coun. Mary Glew, cabinet portfolio holder for primary education, said "Our pioneering work to introduce a fully integrated healthy initiative is a forward thinking policy which is child focused and a clear investment in a whole generation citywide".

Following the launch 16 Hull schools will be piloting the new playground games scheme. Paul Carlile, head teacher of Foredyke Primary School said: "We are committed to giving all our children every opportunity to succeed and view raising awareness of a healthy living lifestyle, for pupils and their families, as a vital strategy."
