Swimmers can strike bronze

Youngsters who want to take the plunge and gain a General Bronze Medallion should contact East Hull Pools & Sauna.

A course for 14 to 16 year olds involving both theory and practical work in water safety and rescue skills is about to be launched. Sessions include tests of strength and stamina, the rescue of a struggling casualty, resuscitation and wade rescues

Operations manager Paul Hussey said: "The General Bronze Medallion was established more than 100 years ago. Since then many hundreds of thousands of people have been successful achieving this very worthwhile qualification."
