Say goodbye to standby!

We've all heard about global warming and most of us have now experienced the first effects of climate change. There's no longer any argument to the cause - burning of fossil fuels to create energy is emitting large amounts of greenhouse gases.
Wasting energy simply makes no sense.
It costs the earth, both financially and literally, through increasing our contribution to climate change.
What's more it's really easy to avoid wasting energy and save money. Every time we watch TV, cook dinner, take a hot shower, use the computer, turn on the lights, or heating, we're emitting greenhouse gases.
Every time we drive our cars, charge our mobile phones, mow the lawns, we're contributing to global warming and speeding up climate change.
We all kind of know this don't we? Here's some really easy ways of saving money and helping to reduce your greenhouse gas emissions...

  • Turning off lights when they're not needed is one of the most effective ways of saving energy at home or in the office
  • Open the curtains or blinds to make the most of natural light – as well as saving energy, it's also better for you
  • Switch off your computer monitor whenever you are away for more than a few minutes, and when you leave the office at the end of the day turn off the monitor and computer
  • Unplug your mobile charger - many mobile phone chargers consume energy when they're plugged in but not connected to the phone (accounting for up to 95% of the charger's energy use)
  • Turn down the heat. Turning down a thermostat by 1°C can cut the heating bill by 10%
  • Empty that kettle - if you're boiling a kettle, only fill it with as much water as you need – fix any taps that are leaking (particularly the hot tap).
  • Close those windows and doors - make sure all the doors and windows are closed when you leave work at night.

Climate change is now the biggest issue of our generation.
To make a difference, everyone needs to work together to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Small differences + lots of people = big difference
