Don't miss new DVD

#

World-class paralympic athlete Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson DBE has given her backing to a new DVD for disabled children and young people in Hull

If you're a child or young person who is disabled, or you're a parent, carer or friend of someone who is, then you might want to know about a great new DVD.
It tells you about all the fun and exciting activities available in Hull for disabled children and young people.
Whether that's how to get involved in disabled sport, or things to do in museums and libraries, or clubs and events to join in with during school holidays, the DVD is fun to watch and shows kids having all types of fun.
And it's had the thumbs up from Tanni Grey-Thompson – a wheelchair-user, born with spina bifida, who became Britain's best-ever disabled athlete.
"Sometimes finding the information you need can be a bit of a struggle, but now there's no excuse for not going out and getting what you need!" says Dame Tanni.
The DVD was produced by Hull City Council in partnership with NHS Hull, after research showed that disabled children and young people wanted information produced specifically for them in a format that they would find interesting and exciting.
It's being launched alongside two new information packs, one about the local and nationwide services available to families living in Hull, and the other about services available at the Children's Centre, in Walker Street, Hull.
"We want to provide families with the information they need to get the right services to support their children and young people," says Cllr Christine Randall, who is responsible for Children and Young People's Services in the city.
"This is just one of the steps we're taking to ensure that Hull lives up to the vision of the 'family friendly city where no child is left behind'."

For more information, or for a copy of the DVD or an information pack, contact the council's Family Information Service on (01482) 318318.
