From the very first time you taste fresh vegetables which you've grown yourself, you'll want to start growing more and more of them.
And you might already be thinking about what to grow in the spring.
If you're a new allotment holder, find out from other gardeners on the site what varieties grow best in that particular soil.
Have a walk round and look at other plots and don't be frightened to ask advice from other gardeners. They might even give you one or two plants which they have spare.
It's also a good idea to look through seed catalogues, which you can get hold of from your local allotment society.
If you're a new gardener thinking about what to grow in your back garden, remember that greens need plenty of space and air.
Vegetables which grow best in confined spaces are onions, carrots, and lettuces.
If you're already a keen gardener, this is the time of year you might be digging up your winter veg like leeks and swedes, and you'll already be picking your sprouts.
But if you're not eating your sprouts just yet, keep taking off any yellow leaves that appear, as they can attract slugs, and watch out for the wood pigeons! If they start eating anything, cover it up with netting.
Also, don't forget you can eat your sprout tops!
