The fight against crime and disorder in west Hull is stepping up a gear with a £750,000 boost for a Community Action Box (CAB).
The funding will pay for an extra four police officers, who will use the CAB, a portable building currently located on Granville Street, as a base for the next 18 months.
Working on a full-time shift basis, their presence means the CAB can open throughout the day and on night-times and weekends, rather than for just three hours each afternoon, as previously.
The extra funding will also pay for two youth workers, a drugs advisor, and a community participation officer, as well as street cleaning enforcement officers, who will crack down on fly-tipping and litter.
They will join the existing CAB team, which includes community wardens, antisocial behaviour officers and fire officers.
"The CAB is already making a real impact on people's lives," said Janet Whipps, chief executive of Gateway, the organisation which has given £400,000 of the extra funding as part of its £35-million regeneration programme to improve housing and communities in the Newington and St. Andrew's area.
"With an even bigger team, it will be able to help more people and make a real impact in the areas it visits," she added.
The rest of the money has been given by the ONE HULL partnership, which includes public and private sector organisations working together with private companies and community and voluntary groups to improve the quality of life in Hull.

What is a CAB?
A community action box (CAB) is a portable building which can be moved from one area to another using a lorry and a crane.
It's a place where residents can report problems in their neighbourhoods.
Launched last September, with its first location on Wellsted Street, the CAB has recently been moved to Granville Street and will be relocated again at the end of this month to another location in the Newington and St. Andrew's area, which is still to be confirmed.
