Helping Third World
Hull shoppers will this month be able to find out how simple choices on their shopping lists can help improve lives in the Third World.
Fairtrade Fortnight, which starts on February 26, will include a range of events across the city to help promote Fairtrade products.
The events include a tasting session at Princes Quay's East Arcade on Saturday March 3, where shoppers will be able to try fruit and chocolate produced by growers in the Third World.
Meanwhile, city business leaders have been invited to attend a Fairtrade breakfast at the Guildhall on March 2.
Martin Budd, Hull City Council's Fairtrade coordinator, said: "We're talking about paying a fair price to the producers who grow or make products in the Third World.
"Simple choices when shopping, which often only amount to a few pence more, can help those producers live sustainable lives, in dignity, and with hope for the future.
No-one can do everything, but we can all do something."
Also as part of Fairtrade Fortnight, Ghanaian farmers will deliver workshops for schoolchildren who are planning to visit Ghana, at Preston Road's Freedom Centre, to help show the benefit which Fairtrade has had on their lives.
