The City Council has backed plans by English Nature to declare the Humber estuary a Special Area of Conservation. The proposal would provide extra environmental protection covering the whole river, including, for the first time, the mudflats between St Andrew's Quay and the city boundary.
The only excluded area would be part of the city's built-up waterfront, which would be exempted to allow for possible future port-related development. |
