NEWS FROM THE AREA COMMITTEES

Police patrolling in west Hull now have their own hi-tech video surveillance equipment to help the fight against crime. The Wyke Area Committee has made a grant of £1,500 from its Community Safety Fund to local police, enabling them to purchase the equipment, which will be used to gather evidence relating to crimes such as vandalism and public disorder. Coun. John Fareham, chair of the Wyke Area Committee, said: "This has come about as a direct result of residents expressing their concerns at ward forums and the recent Wyke Crime Summit. "It is a fine example of partnership, with the proposals from the police gaining all-party support." Residents in east Hull will soon be able to pick up advice on jobs and homework along with their shopping, thanks to a new initiative being funded in the Sutton and Bilton Area. The local area committee has awarded £43,000 to volunteers from the Springboard Committee to set up a resource centre at Ings Road Shopping Centre. The centre is expected to provide a community cafe, employment services, youth information, homework clubs and IT facilities.
