Hull's £150m Ferensway project has taken a major step forward with the confirmation of a compulsory purchase order by the Government.
The development, which is the city's largest ever regeneration scheme, will include a £10m rail and bus interchange, major new retail facilities, 200 homes, a multiplex cinema, hotel and new premises for Hull Truck Theatre and Albemarle Music Centre. Statutory approvals and preliminary work are now expected to be completed within the next few months with building work scheduled to start this autumn. John Haymes, of Yorkshire Forward, said that the confirmation of the compulsory purchase order meant that the next stage of the Ferensway project could now definitely go ahead. City Council leader Coun. Patrick Doyle commented: "This is a major boost for this exciting regeneration initiative that will deliver major benefits to the city." The development is expected to be complete within six years. |
