HOME SHOPPING
If you shop for goods and services by telephone, mail order, fax, digital television, or on the Internet, you nowq have new consumer rights.
CLEAR INFORMATION
Before you decide to buy,the seller must give the following information: the seller's name and, for advance payments, his/her postal address; a description of the goods or services; the price including all taxes; delivery costs if applicable; payment arrangements; delivery arrangements; the right to cancel the order and whether you will be responsible for the cost of returning goods; and for services the minimum duration of the contract if applicable; the validity of the offer.
Telephone sales persons must start by saying who they represent and the fact that they are selling something. After you buy, the seller should send you written confirmation and how you can cancel if necessary. You should receive this information before the goods are delivered or before
the service contract starts.
COOLING OFF PERIOD
If you change your mind the law gives you seven working days to cancel but this must be done in writing. If you have not been provided with a cooling-off period, the cancellation period will be longer. Remember you must take care of the goods and either return them or make them available for collection. Advance payments must be refunded within 30 days.
You may have to pay for the cost of returning the goods. Credit agreements arranged or suggested by the seller will be automatically cancelled. In some cases you do not have the right to a cooling-off period.
CREDIT CARD PROTECTION
The Regulations make it safer to use your card for home shopping. If someone uses your card illegally you can cancel the payment and the card issuer must refund the money.
