Hull in print continues its journey through the A to Z of Hull City Council services looking at the letters T-Z.

Teacher training
We team up with the Hull Citywide Graduate Teacher Programme Partnership (GTP) to run two free teacher taster courses each November, funded by the Training and Development Agency.
The courses, aimed at graduates, or final year degree students, help them make an informed choice about whether teaching is the career for them.
Candidates spend one day with Hull Citywide GTP Partnership staff, one day at a Hull school shadowing a teacher and then finish off with a feedback day.

Tourism and travel
Hull City Council, East Riding of Yorkshire Council and regional development agency Yorkshire Forward, work together as part of the Visit Hull and East Yorkshire (VHEY) partnership to promote the city as a tourist destination.

Trade waste collection
The council can collect waste direct from business and trade premises in a range of containers (from 240 to 1100 litre).
There is a charge for this service.
Trading standards
This department ensures faulty, unsafe or counterfeit goods are removed from sale in shops and markets, fireworks are not sold to those who are under-age, safety standards are met and maintained in shops, garages, and factories and that goods sold locally are correctly labelled and priced.
Traffic lights
The council designs, installs and maintains traffic light signals in Hull.
Traffic management
The council has the responsibility of keeping traffic flowing on the roads by providing and maintaining road markings and signs.
Translation service
This service is run in partnership with the NHS.
It provides interpreters in more than 75 languages who can help non-English speaking people gain access to services.
There is a charge for this service.
Traveller education service
This service provides advice and support for travellers living in Hull and ensures their children can be educated in local schools or at home, where appropriate, however long their stay is in the city.
This includes providing the Hull Fair School for the children of travellers working at Hull Fair.
Trees
The council can issue Tree Preservation Orders to protect mature trees following a request from a member of the public.
Twin city
Hull is twinned with Freetown, the capital city of Sierra Leone, to promote cultural, educational and economic exchanges between the two cities for the benefit of both communities.
Vehicle take-back scheme
Owners of old, unwanted vehicles can request their removal, free of charge.
Waste management
We are responsible for domestic refuse collection, street cleansing, graffiti and fly-posting removal, gully cleaning, and the removal of rubbish dumped on public land by fly-tippers.
Recycling is a major aspect of the work and we provide household black boxes for recycling bottles and cans, blue bins for paper, and household waste recycling sites at Burma Drive, Wilmington, and Wiltshire Road to allow residents to recycle large quantities of anything from garden waste to electrical goods.
Weights and measures
The council has a duty to ensure that weighing and measuring equipment used for trade purposes and at markets is accurate and true.
Welfare rights
We provide assistance and advocacy to members of the public in regard to their social security benefits claims.
Winter salting
The council clears snow and ice from major roads and carries out precautionary salting to stop them icing over.
Work experience
The council offers short work experience placements to students and trainees.
Youth offending team
This service is a partnership between Hull City Council, Humberside Police, Hull Teaching Primary Care Trust and the National Probation Service (Humberside).
It works with children and young people aged 10-17 who have been dealt with by the police and/or the courts for offending.
The service aims to help reduce re-offending by providing a range of mentoring and advice services, including specialist services to address health and substance misuse needs and to ensure young offenders are engaged in full-time education, training or employment.
Young people's support services (YPSS)
This service works with 13 to 21-year-olds who are leaving care, are homeless, or have issues such as broken family relationships or drug and alcohol problems and require advice and support.
The YPSS also offers young people a personal advisor who will work with them to draw up plan of action through which they can resolve their problems and look ahead to education, training, and job opportunities.
Young people can be referred to the service from schools, family resource centres and other agencies or they can refer themselves.
Zebra crossings
The council is responsible for 53 zebra crossings on roads across the city.
The crossings are marked by black and white stripes painted on the road with orange flashing beacons at each end.
They give pedestrians the right of way, however you should make sure all traffic has stopped before crossing.
Crossings can be installed by the council if local residents and businesses identify a need for them.
The council also manages other types of pedestrian crossings, such as toucan, pelican and puffin crossings.
