In the driving seat

From dealing with bullies to coping with exam stress, a new website will help Hull's young people take control.

#

It will become known as an Internet 'one-stop shop', open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, at the click of a mouse ...
Lots of essential information will be on there, such as coping with revision and exams, relationship issues, and all the other stuff you go through while growing up.
And what's more the website is being shaped by young people in Hull, for young people in Hull, to make sure it tells them what they want and need to know in a language they understand.
"By involving children and young people in developing the website we can make sure they know where to find advice that can help them live safer, healthier and more enjoyable lives," says Cllr Mike Ross, who has responsibility for education in Hull.
"The idea for the website came from talking to children and young people three years ago while the council was developing its Children and Young People's Plan.
"They said the best way of getting the message across would be through a website.
"At a time when the Internet has never been more widely used, it is without doubt the best way of communicating."
A total of 20 children and young people, aged from seven to 19, who attend St Stephen's Neighbourhood Centre in Greatfield; Planet Play / Child Dynamix at Flinton Grove; and Route One Young People's Resource Centre in Hall Road worked with the council and web designers on the project.
The name of the website and its web address will be released in the coming weeks ready for launch at the end of March.
