In these tough times many of us are finding it harder to manage our money.
So, here are a few ideas to start you thinking about how to make your money go further.
You can find out more by visiting the FSA's website www.moneymadeclear.fsa.gov.uk, which gives you the facts without selling or jargon.
Pop into your local library if you haven't a computer.
Make sure you know what benefits you're entitled to. More than £2 billion of benefits go unclaimed every year. See the www.direct.gov.uk guide to benefits
Keep a spending diary to find out where your money goes. Try every day for a week to write down the cost of each item you buy. We sometimes buy things because they are convenient but they may cost more than you think
Review your direct debits. Are you paying regularly for things you no longer use, like magazine subscriptions or gym membership? Or services that gave you a free introductory offer and you now pay full price for?
Check you are paying your bills by the cheapest method. Some insurance providers charge you more for using direct debit, while utility suppliers might offer you a discount
Save on home energy. The Energy Saving Trust website has details about grants and you can get a personalised report on how much you could save in your home.
