Spotlight on success

Now's the time to get your nominations in for the 2010 Spotlight Awards.

They're for children and young people who've achieved amazing things.
Whether it's showing courage, helping others, or overcoming barriers to succeed in sport, arts, or at school – now is the time for Hull's children and young people to be recognised for their amazing achievements.
The second annual Spotlight Awards will be presented in a glitzy ceremony at the KC Stadium in May.
There will also be awards for adults who've gone above and beyond the call of duty in their work with children and young people.
To nominate, all you have to do is fill out the form opposite.
The categories are as follows:

1 Sportsperson of the Year Award

For children or young people who have performed exceptionally well at their sport either as an individual or as a member of a team.

2 Outstanding Contribution to the Arts Award

For children and young people who have demonstrated an exceptional talent in any form, or made a substantial impact to local cultural life, possibly by leading an initiative in their school, youth centre or community.

3 Foster Carer of the Year Award

Open to any foster carer registered with Hull City Council, this award will recognise their outstanding commitment and dedication to the children and young people they care for.

4 Child or Young Person of Courage Award

For someone who has performed an act of extraordinary courage or bravery or experienced difficult personal circumstances.

5 Achiever of the Year Award

This award will be split into three age ranges
Primary
Secondary
Post 16 including apprenticeships
It will recognise effort and progress, for example in improved attendance, attainment or behaviour.

6 Volunteer Worker of the Year Award

For an adult who has made a difference to the lives of children and young people, whether by running sports groups, youth groups, mentoring or helping out in a school.

7 Positive Contribution Award

For individuals and groups of children and young people who have shown determination in campaigning for change in the city, for example against racism or bullying, or for environmental, healthy eating or well-being issues.

8 Best Friend of the Year Award

Children and young people can nominate someone who supports them through difficult times. The best friend could be a child, young person or adult.

9 Entrepreneur of the Year Award

For the young person aged 14-24 who has demonstrated the most entrepreneurial skills or outlook.

10 Young Carer of the Year Award

For a child or young person who provides a significant level of care to another family member.

11 Worker of the Year

For an individual who has gone the extra mile to make a difference to the life of a young person or group of young people. This person might be a nurse, police officer, social or youth worker, or a childminder.
