Top class results

Attainment in Hull primary schools is improving at a faster rate than nationally.
Results at key stage two show that one per cent more pupils than last year have achieved level four or above in each of the key subjects (English, maths and science).
This compares to a stand-still nationally.
"It's encouraging to see that we are narrowing the gap on the national average," says Cllr Christine Randall, portfolio holder for education and children's services, said: "Although there is still a way to go, I am confident that we can continue to move in the right direction and improve the lives of children across the city."
Results announced at the end of last year show that 76 per cent of pupils achieved level four or above in English and maths, and that 87 per cent achieved it in science.
Nationally, the figures have remained at 80 per cent for English, 79 per cent for maths, and 88 per cent for science.
"The challenge for us now is to continue with this improvement, which in turn will have an impact on children's achievements when they reach secondary school," says Judith Harwood, head of learning, leisure and achievement at Hull City Council.
"We're extending some programmes which have proved to make a difference in improving children's literacy and numeracy skills and we'll be introducing a new numeracy project."
