Teams buddy up for rescue

Residents in North Carr have seen two community teams race to their rescue.
The Bransholme Buddies team, which acts as a mobile youth club and also looks after older people, and the Community Caretakers, who do odd jobs for residents, joined forces to serve people in the greatest need during the floods.
The two teams were trying to keep the floodwaters at bay as rain started on the evening of Sunday June 24 which included filling and distributing sand bags.
Since then, they have been working to protect those made vulnerable by the floods by evacuating people from flooded homes, removing damaged furniture and assisting people with insurance documents.
Cllr Anita Harrison, who represents Bransholme East, was delighted when temporary accommodation was offered to evacuees by Sanctuary Housing.
“I would like to thank them for this generous assistance in letting some evacuees stay for free at Dales Lodge,” said Cllr Harrison.
“The voluntary sector, community and the council should also be congratulated for their hard work to help those affected.”
