Hull - an amazing place
 |
A senior government minister said he "was amazed" after visiting Hull's world-class museums and art galleries.
Among the places praised by Minister for Culture David Lammy MP was Wilberforce House, the birthplace of anti-slavery campaigner William Wilberforce.
It will reopen in March with a completely new exhibition, following a £1.6 million refurbishment, which has been funded with cash from central government under the Renaissance Project.
The project has also paid for the Hull Museums Education Service, which has led to a 73 per cent increase in the number of school visits to Hull Museums.
The service is also leading the way with its use of multimedia to help children learn.
Mr Lammy said: "The education project I saw at the Streetlife Museum was hugely impressive. I saw the excitement shine out on kids' faces. The dedication and professionalism I saw in staff was really admirable."
Hull was recently voted 22nd out of 408 places in Britain when it comes to cultural places to see and visit.
Admission is free to the city's museums and galleries.
