Soldiering on

Dear Hull in print,
Thank you very much for the help and information I received from Hull in print readers in my search for the family of World War 1 soldier Private Jim Todd, of the Hull Commercials.
Although I've not managed to find his family, I tracked down the family of Private David Jones, his friend to whom he gave his Bible. I learned that Private Jones passed away in 1935, aged 68.
In the meantime, I will continue my search and keep you posted.

Yours sincerely,
Myfanwy Bowen,
Colwyn Bay, Wales

Note to readers: Mrs Bowen, who featured in November's Hull in print, has been trying to find Private Todd's family ever since she bought a Bible which belonged to him in a charity shop near her home. Mrs Bowen would like to return the Bible to them, after Private Todd gave it away as a gift to his friend Private Jones, exactly 90 years ago.

Top dollar

Dear Hull in print,
I really do not know how to say this.
First, I would like to thank you. It seems so long ago since I lived in Hull, and through Hull in print I have seen so many wonderful improvements to the city I grew up in.
To return the favour, I am enclosing a 20 dollar note. I am hoping that you can get it changed somehow and please use it, maybe to put in a fund to help the needy, wherever help is needed.
Hope you can do this for me.

God bless,
Patricia Broadley,
Fredericksburg, Virginia, USA

Note to readers: The 20-dollar bill has been donated to the Lord Mayor's charity, the Sea Cadets' training ship, Iron Duke.
