A taste of things to come
Have you ever wondered how great artists get the most out of canvas, brushes and oil paints to create their masterpieces?
Well now you can find out, by taking part in 'taster tours' of Ferens Art Gallery.
Guided tours, led by one of the gallery's attendants, are now being held to show visitors around the collections to introduce them to the wonders of art.
"The taster tours are open to anyone in Hull, and especially people who may have thought art galleries are dull and stuffy places that are not worth bothering with," said Simon Green, head of operations for Hull museums.
"We have some fabulous collections of European old masters by artists such as Frans Hals and Antonio Canaletto, maritime paintings, and contemporary works by British artists such as David Hockney on display.
"With all of them we want to tell the story of how the artists used canvas, brushes, paints and other materials to create something special.
"I am sure this will make visits to the gallery even more enjoyable and encourage a broader range of people to come along."
If the taster tours at the Queen Victoria Square site prove successful, they may be extended to Hull's other free-to-visit galleries and museums.
For more information on the taster tours, please ask at the gallery reception, and for more information on all Hull's galleries and museums please phone 300300 or visit www.hullcc.gov.uk
