This month Hull in print continues its journey through the A to Z of Hull City Council services looking at the letter 'S' (continued from last month).

Sports pitches
Rugby pitches owned by the council for public hire are available at Massey Street (1 pitch); Costello (2 pitches); East Park (2 pitches); Alderman Kneeshaw Park (1 pitch); Oak Road playing fields (1 pitch); East Mount (2 pitches); Bricknell playing fields (2 pitches).
Football pitches owned by the council for public hire are available at Stonebridge Playing Fields (4 pitches); Flinton Grove (4 pitches); Alderman Kneeshaw (2 pitches); Pelican Park (1 pitch); Bude Road (3 pitches); Burnham Road (1 pitch); Costello (7 pitches); Ennerdale (3 pitches); Gower Road (1 pitch); Kenilworth Avenue (1 pitch); King George V playing fields at Hall Road (2 pitches); Noddle Hill Way (3 pitches); Orchard Park playing fields (12 pitches); Pickering Park (3 pitches); Princess Elizabeth playing fields at Beverley Road; (2 pitches); Longhill Playing Fields (3 pitches); East Mount (1 pitch); Springhead Avenue (1 pitch).
Tennis courts. Six tennis courts are available for hire at Pelican Park, Lambwath Road.
Sports development
We work with sporting organisations across the city to make it possible for more Hull people to participate in physical activities such as football, tennis, hockey, rugby league and swimming.
Sports and leisure centres
The council provides: Costello Stadium; Endeavour Leisure Centre; Hull Arena; Kingston's Fitness Suite; Ennerdale; Springhead Park Golf Course; Sutton Park Golf Course; Princess Elizabeth Astro-Turf Pitch.
We provide activities for people of all ages including:

Standards Committee
The Standards Committee has a duty, by law, to promote and maintain high standards of conduct by councillors in accordance with the Member Code of Conduct.
Streetscene
This is the name of the service that includes refuse collection, recycling of household waste, clearing abandoned and burned-out vehicles, repairing faulty streetlights, and maintaining and resurfacing roads.
Student grants
This service helps Hull students to receive their full entitlement of financial support including tuition fee loans and cost of living loans from the Students Loans Company in Glasgow.
Supported and sheltered housing
There are 24 council-owned sheltered housing schemes across the city.
These include bungalows and one-bed flats and bedsits. All the sheltered housing schemes have a warden on site from 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday.
Sutton Place Safe Centre
This is a secure children's home for boys and girls who have received a criminal conviction. The centre provides full time education, guidance and support, and the health needs of the children are also attended to.
Swimming
Swimming pools can be found at Albert Avenue Pools, Beverley Road Baths, East Hull Pools, Ennerdale Leisure Centre and Woodford Leisure centre (currently closed).
