Full marks for healthy schools

##

Pupils from a variety of schools celebrate success, and (bottom left) deputy leader of Hull City Council, Cllr Christine Randall, who is responsible for children's services, presents a healthy schools plaque to pupils from Wheeler Primary School on Anlaby Road

A total of 35 schools in Hull have achieved the "gold standard" in promoting the health and well-being of their pupils.
The schools received the Government's National Healthy Schools Award after meeting a long list of requirements, including encouraging the drinking of water during the school day and promoting walking or cycling to school.
Other requirements were that schools provided two hours of structured physical activity each week, as well as activities to build confidence and self esteem.
"The awards recognise all the hard work that schools and teachers have carried - and we hope many more schools gain the award in the near future," said Alison Cockerill, of the council's Healthy Schools Team, which has helped schools achieve the status in partnership with the NHS.
