Hull – the place to be

Hull is making headlines for all the right reasons.
For so long, our home city had to take more than its fair share of criticism from the national media.
But now our reputation is changing and we are on the map.
Hull is once again a place people want to live, work, visit, shop, and do business in.
Business Week and the Yorkshire International Business Convention, held last month, is a great example of how the local business community is harnessing the new mood of confidence.
The week included business and luncheon meetings, seminars and other special events to motivate and inspire local businesses to greater success.
I am looking forward to hearing about the new investments, contacts, ventures and jobs that will come to Hull as a result of the ideas and opportunities opened up by Business Week.
Meanwhile, it is now 60 years since the NHS was formed and we celebrate this historic landmark with a feature on pages 16-18.
You can look back at photographs of Hull Royal Infirmary being built and read about plans for the future of the NHS and what you can do to improve your own health.
All the staff working in the NHS, from surgeons and nurses through to hospital porters and ambulance drivers, make a huge personal contribution to our city and I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to them.
It goes without saying, where would we be without them? Also in this month's magazine is a 'summer in the city' feature on pages 19-26, giving details of school holiday activities for children, young people and families.
From art and craft sessions in the city's museums to football and rugby sessions - all these and more are available.
Hull City Council has helped to organise the activity programme to keep children and young people healthy and safe, and provide them with learning opportunities through the holidays.
Whatever your plans for the summer I hope you have an enjoyable and relaxing break.
