Passion for quality

#

A training scheme has been launched to attract more tourists to the region, boost the local economy, and create employment.
Tourism currently supports 14,000 jobs in Hull and East Yorkshire contributing £670 million to the local economy.
Last month, Visit Hull and East Yorkshire (VHEY), the region's tourism partnership, launched a training initiative to help increase tourism spending in the area by five per cent each year.
Yorkshire Passion will provide training for those involved in the local tourist industry to offer better customer service and product knowledge to visitors.
It is hoped the reputation for quality service will lead to more people visiting and spending money in and around Hull.
"The way we interact with visitors is key to raising the profile of Hull and East Yorkshire," said Hull Truck artistic director and VHEY chairperson John Godber, who produced three short artistic pieces (to be played by actors) and a 15-minute video for the training.
He said the scripts are hard hitting, humorous and memorable to ensure people are passionate about giving the best welcome to tourists.
Meanwhile, the Tour of Britain cycle race - which comes to Hull and passes through the East Riding in September - is expected to attract a large number of tourists and day-trippers.
Yorkshire Passion will help the region present its best face at this high-profile national sporting event.
