Increase the peace

#

Reverend Jesse Jackson

One of the world's top civil rights activists will visit Hull this month to help promote business and industry in the city.
As this magazine was going to press, the Reverend Jesse Jackson, an influential figure in American politics for 40 years and twice a Democratic candidate for the Presidency, was due to be the headline speaker at the Yorkshire International Business Conference.
Rev Jackson, whose campaign slogan is "increase the peace," was also expected to visit Wilberforce House museum to pay tribute to Hull's great anti-slavery campaigner.
"It's a major coup for us and has created a real stir among the business community," said Hull businessman Paul Sewell, the organiser of the conference at west Hull's Gemtec Arena.
Rev Jackson's address, scheduled for June 8 before an audience of 650 businessmen and women, was also arranged as a rousing finale to Hull Business Week.
Other motivational speakers included ocean diver Monty Halls and Swedish business guru Jonas Ridderstrale.
