New bus station

Hull's brand new £18 million bus and train station, which is under construction as part of the St Stephen's development in Ferensway, will start operating from September.
A public information campaign will be launched to help travellers on more than 60 bus routes to find their new regular bus stops.
The current temporary bus station at Albion Street / Bond Street will revert to a car park.
Its bus stops will be removed and temporary traffic restrictions in that area will be lifted.
The new bus and train station, or 'transport interchange', will handle more than 360 bus movements every hour which will deliver 24,000 people to the city centre every day.
Hull City Council will work with the city's two major bus companies, Stagecoach and East Yorkshire Motor Services to make the transition as smooth as possible.
"We faced a mammoth task with the temporary relocation of the bus station three years ago and we are applying a lot of the lessons learned for the big move this autumn," said Graham Hall, group manager for highways and transportation at the council.

Hull transport facts

  • More than 22 million bus journeys are made in Hull each year.
  • The new interchange will include shops, a travel office, a control building for bus company staff, and a state-of-the-art passenger information system.
  • The old bus station closed in 2003 to allow clearance of the St Stephen's site for redevelopment.
  • Bus drivers will get full training about the new parking bay arrangements from mid-August.
