We will rock you
Young people in Hull are dancing their way towards a 'natural high' for this year's Humberside Police Lifestyle Rock Challenge.
These were the stunning scenes when pupils from Winifred Holtby School wowed a 1,000-strong crowd at Hull Arena to win this year's Hull heat.
Performing their own show, entitled DISCOver Yourself, they posed the following questions to the audience.
"Who do you want to be? Where do you fit in at school? You don't have to choose.
Busy geek, techno, chav, Prada prancer or emo? There may be bits in all of us.
The important thing is you discover who you are."
Clinching second place in the event on April 11 was Kelvin Hall School performing Sarah's Journey, closely followed by Kingswood College of Arts with Nutritional Heroes Skinny Zeros in third.
Meanwhile, Winifred Holtby School was due to represent Hull and take on other regional heat winners in the Northern Open Grand Final at Grimsby Auditorium on May 30.
Inspirational
"Rock Challenge is now in its twentieth year and the standard is so high that performances would not look out of place in London's West End," says Humberside Police Lifestyle project co-ordinator Lisa Whitton.
"The young people who take part are inspirational and illustrate what can be achieved with the right help and encouragement."
The overall aim is to show young people how they can achieve a natural high without the use of cigarettes, alcohol or drugs.
Each school decides on a theme for a six-minute performance.
They design and make their own stage sets and costumes, and work out their own music, vocal routines and choreography.
Performers must dedicate themselves to rehearsals and perfect their routines to stand any chance of winning.
This year the event received funding from Hull Citysafe, the city's crime reduction partnership which brings together Hull City Council, Humberside Police, and other partners.
Rock Challenge is also financially assisted by Arco, Andrew Marr International, Connexions, 96.9 Viking FM, and several other backers.

Comedy dash
If you struggle to see the funny side of working out and keeping fit then this could be the show for you.
A new comedy by Sophie Woolley, a performer with strong Hull connections, comes to the Ferens Art Gallery this month.
Her one-woman show looks at why women run in the first place and what they think about as they pound the pavements.
"When I go running I think about nerdy stuff such as how my well my running is going or just whatever I have on my mind at the time," she says.
"I hope the audience recognise something of themselves in the humour and the different characters I portray within the show."
Based in east London, Sophie is no stranger to Hull as half of her family hails from the city.
"I can't wait to perform in Hull, it will be interesting to see how the place has changed since I was last there," says Sophie (pictured right).
The show will also be subtitled for audience members who are hard of hearing and takes place at Ferens Art Gallery on June 26.
