Olympic Games come early to Hull

The Beijing Olympics are just weeks away – and hundreds of Hull primary school children will be coming together to compete in their own Olympic-style competition at the Gemtec Arena.
Each school will represent a different nation, by sporting its colours, and will hear its national anthem, should a pupil from their school make it on to the medals podium.
The event, called FUNdamentals 2008 FUN Olympics, is being organised by Hull FC and will take place on June 23 and 24.
Each day will begin with an opening ceremony at which Hull FC mascot - The Airlie Bird - will carry the 'Olympic torch'.
The children taking part will also be able to meet the Hull FC players.
"We're a community-focused club and we want to play a part in the personal and physical development of children within our city," said Hull FC general manager Jon Flatman.
Each school is being invited to send 12 children from years 1, 2, 3, and 4, with an even split of girls and boys.
The event is the culmination of the FUNdamentals 2008 coaching skills programme, running since January, through which children have been learning balance, coordination and agility though physical activity.
Competitive events will include timed running, passing a rugby ball through a hole and a ten-pin bowling style activity, but it's also hoped children will learn about geography and different cultures through the event.
