Hull City AFC's new status as a Premiership football club could bring millions of pounds of extra investment to the local economy.
The city will be visited by thousands more away fans than in previous years – who will boost trade for hotels, shops, restaurants, bars and cafes when they come to follow teams such as Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal.
"Directors and shareholders of Premiership clubs will also be coming to the city and they're exactly the kind of people we want to attract," says Mark Jones, head of regional development at Hull City Council.
"If they like what they see they may choose to pursue business investments here which could bring new wealth and jobs to the area.
"The club could not have clinched promotion at a better time - because visitors will see the regenerated city centre and all its new retail and leisure developments.
"Coverage of Hull City's success has already spread far and wide and we could never have paid for that level of advertising for the city."
Meanwhile, Dean Windass' match-winning volley in the play-off final even reached the sports pages of the Montreal Gazette in Canada.
The article stated that: "Hull's great victory could awaken a sleeping giant."
