Close the door on burglars

#

Pc Waudby advises a resident on security

Police have repeated warnings to residents not to leave windows and doors open during warm weather, as they could attract sneak-in burglars.
"Particularly if you are in the garden or upstairs, make sure there are no easy entrances for burglars who can be in your house in a flash," says Pc Trevor Waudby, crime prevention officer with Hull Citysafe.
"They can often get through the smallest window, and will take anything that comes to hand such as handbags, purses, and small electrical items.
"Often, they'll take keys to the doors of the house so they can return later and burgle the house again.
"And if car keys are taken it's very likely the family car will be stolen as well."
Police are also warning that gardening tools and equipment such as lawn mowers and strimmers are at risk from thieves if not locked safely away.
Garden furniture, barbecues, children toys and even plants and shrubs can also be a target.
"Be security conscious," says Pc Waudby.
"Don't leave valuable objects in the garden overnight.
Instead make sure they are locked away in a shed or garage."
