In tune for Refugee Week

#

Hull will rock to a global beat as a free, day-long music festival marks the start of Refugee Week 2009.
Gig in the Gardens will feature live performances from local and international musicians including Reya, Projekt Feenix, Nzaya Nzayadio, Bora Shabaa, Hekima and the Bongo Flava, and many more.
After the launch festival, a range of Refugee Week events will take place at venues across the city until 20 June, including story-telling, puppet shows, photography exhibitions, a fashion show, and a lecture on the history of refugees in Hull.
"The week is an opportunity to celebrate the positive contribution refugees and asylum seekers make to our city and our country," says Steve Ibbetson, Hull City Council's asylum and refugee service manager.
Hull is home to asylum seekers and refugees from more than 45 countries, and many play a full part in the city's economic and cultural life after having fled civil war and persecution elsewhere in the world.

Gig in the Gardens takes place in Queen's Gardens on 13 June from 12 - 6pm.
