Lest we forget
On Armistice day, Friday November 11 at 11am, people in Hull are asked to observe two minutesŐ silence to commemorate those who lost their lives in war.
And on Sunday November 13, The Lord Mayor of Hull, together with civic dignitaries, military personnel and memembers of the public, will attend a Remembrance Day Service and wreath-laying ceremony at The Cenotaph, Paragon Square.
Old - but powerful
A special Better Government for Older People open day at the Guildhall on December 12 will be a great opportunity for HullŐs older citizens to make their voices heard or simply find out more about services for older people. "We want to listen to older peopleŐs views and involve them in the life of the city," said Cllr Mary Glew. "So I hope lots of older people get on our free buses, pop into the Guildhall, have a cup of coffee with us and find out more."

It's your life
The leading organisation of disabled people in Hull and the East Riding -Choices and Rights Disability Coalition - are holding a one-day nationalĘ conference for both disabled people and service providers/employers entitled "It's your life - what are you going to make of it?", focusing on how disabled people can live independent and dynamic lifestyles. It's a sign!
A new sceme is being piloted by the city council to give city road-users advance information about the road ahead.
Two Variable Message Signs (VMS) have been introduced on Holderness Road and Stoneferry Road, and it is planned that a further nine VMS and five electronic car parking signs will be in place around the city from April 2006. Councillor Gary Wareing, Cabinet member with responsibility for transport , said: "I am delighted with the installation of these signs, which are part of the 40 key promises we have made to the citizens of Hull."
Bear necessities
The heritage of Hull's Spring Bank is recalled by two new sculptures which were recently installed at the entrance to Albany Street.
The bears are the work of Martin Herron, an artist selected by local residevents to create the feature as part of the government funded Albany Street Home Zone Project.
The bears are the first of a series of sculptures featuring animals that existed in the Hull Zoological Gardens, which was sited close to Albany Street between 1840 and 1862.
