£2.5 million facelift for Ferensway

Part of Ferensway - one of Hull's busiest roads - will be closed for around six months this year from the late spring. The road will be closed to northbound traffic to enable work to be carried out onthe nearby £200m St Stephen's development.

The road itself will also be totally reconstructed in a project costing £2.5million, which will make it more pedestrian-friendly.

Cllr Gary Wareing, responsible for transport in the city, said: "Much like theNorth Bridge closure last year, we'll been couraging people to think ahead and plan their journeys.

"Using public transport, park and ride schemes or car sharing would be goodways to travel to the city centre during this time."

Meanwhile, the council's state-of-the-art CCTV control centre will monitor traffic flow, while the traffic-light control systemwill help manage traffic queues. Diversions will be in place and new electronic message signs around the city will provide driver information.
