Sounds of Spring

#

Some of Hull's finest young musicians will perform at Hull City Hall for this year's Spring Concert.
The show, which is regarded as one of the highlights of the youth music year, features performances by the Youth Symphony Orchestra, Youth Brass Band, Youth Symphonic Wind Band and the Hull Youth Jazz Orchestra.
To begin with, the orchestras and bands will perform separately, playing works as diverse as Norwegian Wood by The Beatles, the theme from Stingray, and the Overture to the Wasps by Ralph Vaughan Williams.
But they will all play together for the last rousing number, which will be a piece of music called The Pines on the Appian Way by Ottorino Respighi.
"Young musicians always look forward to the Spring Concert and the varied bill this year will make it a hugely entertaining evening," says Chris Maynard, head of the Hull Music Service.
"They enjoy the experience of playing at the City Hall, especially if it's in front of a large audience.
The concert is a fitting reward for their hard work over the year and a big step forward in their development as performing musicians."
The show takes place on March 18 at 7pm.
Tickets are priced £5 - £7 with concessions available.
Special rates for tickets are also available for school parties.

Talented pupils from a Hull primary school are preparing to exhibit their works at the National Gallery in London.
Pupils from Wheeler Street Primary School have created artworks (one of which is pictured, right) that have been selected to be exhibited as part of the gallery's 'Take One Picture' project.
The west Hull school is among six schools which have been picked from across the country to exhibit at the gallery.
The National Gallery asked children to design artworks inspired by one of the gallery's paintings, 'An Autumn Landscape with a View of Het Steen in the Early Morning'.
The painting dated 1636, by Peter Paul Rubens shows an old house overlooking a city in the distance.
In response, the school took pupils to Raywell Scout Camp and Raywell House near Swanland as the area overlooks Hull.
The children spent time in the house and surrounding countryside, using the experience to generate ideas for their artwork.
The exhibition of photographs, paintings, drawings, sculptures and poetry can be seen from April 28 to July 13 at the gallery in Trafalgar Square.
