Museums go on-line
The world can now view exhibits from Hull's museums and art galleries at the click of a mouse – thanks to a £1.4m Hull City Council scheme to place them on the internet.
The service, launched last month, allows web surfers to view photographs and information about treasures ranging from artwork to archaeological finds.
The site holds details of more than 100,000 artefacts and a further 300,000 will be uploaded over the next 12 months.
This site was launched to allow residents to view information on a wider range of the city's artefacts as just 20 per cent of exhibits can be displayed in Hull's museums and galleries at any one time.
Meanwhile, 467,879 people visited Hull museums and art galleries in 2007, a 14 per cent increase from 2006.
