Star larkers

This month the Hull in print news crew – that's Declan, Chris, Harry, Jordan and Patrick - have been studying the Solar System. This is some of the information they found out.

The earth, sun and moon are all roughly spheres. The sun is one hundred times bigger than the earth. The word 'orbit' is used to describe the path that planets travel around the sun and also the path of moons around planets. The solar system contains the sun and the nine planets. The sun is our light source. It is a star. The earth rotates around the sun. The time it takes for the earth to make one complete orbit of the sun is one year. The earth spins on its axis once every 24hours. The parts of the earth facing the sun have daytime. The parts of the earth turned away from the sun have night time.
